Educational Philosophy
Growing up I always wanted to be a teacher. I knew I wanted to impact the lives of future generations with my passion for life, my students, education, and math and Spanish, the two subjects which I teach. As the image to the right shares, "We like to transfer our energy into something creative and inspiring." For me, I find our young people are the most creative and inspiring people I could invest my time into. I love what I do and I am excited every day I get to do it.
My goal as an educator is to provide my students with real-life applications of math and Spanish, inspiration, and life lessons. To achieve this goal I must be a life-long learner, as well as an educator. I seek to keep up with the current technology and methods available for educators and incorporate them into my classroom. In order to do this I am consistently on the lookout for conferences, classes, and websites that will teach me something new to share in the classroom.
As an educator, I feel my role does not stop at the final bell. I support my students in their sports and extra curricular activities, showing an interest in their lives outside the classroom. By doing this I am able to build a rapport with my students which allows me to get to know them and how to meet their individual needs in the classroom. With this rapport, also comes trust. By showing an interest in my students lives outside the classroom they are more likely to open up and share inside the classroom.
I aim to create a learning environment which encourages creativity, openness and sharing, support, and is safe for my students. I want my classroom to be one where students can ask questions, share opinions, and encourage one another without the fear of judgement. I do this by having zero tolerance for bullying in my classroom, supporting and encouraging all my students to create their best works, and explaining to my students that everyone's "best works" are different. The students need to be creating something they feel is their individual best, and not putting down what others consider their best.
Overall I hope that my passions for life and learning shine through to my students. If nothing else I hope my students leave my room know that I cared about them as an individual and that I always encouraged them to do their best. But, if I have done my job the way I hope to, my students will leave me room with a passion for learning, a questioning mind, and open ears not just for my content areas but for all learning.
As you continue to explore my website and get to know me as a teacher I have included some links to help you. "The Goal" is a reflection on the goal of my Master of Arts in Education program, the views I had when I started and where they were when I ended. As a lifelong learner my "Future Learning Goals" explains how I plan to continue learning following my master's program. In the discussion of creating best works, my "MSU Portfolio" page to shares some of the works I have created.
