Rudyard Area Schools
Below you will find photos of my classroom in Rudyard Area Schools. I work with mostly 8th, and 9th graders. I have my students do a lot of partner and small group activities so I have set my classroom up in a way that allows for easy transitions from lecture, to individual work, to partner work and to group work.
View of my classroom from the door. Students are in groups, and the walls are decorated with posters relevant to different materials.

View of the room from the back to the front. Note the teacher desk in the center with the projector to the right. I like to project onto the whiteboard so I can write on the image until I can get an interactive white board.
|
I have the desks arranged in groups of four. There are not enough books for my students to each take one home so I leave a book on each desk as well as having the desks numbered. The desk numbers then correspond to laptop number, book number, calculator number, and cell phone pocket number. This helps streamline a variety of classroom processes.
|
I ask students to put cell phones, ipods, etc. in these pockets as they are an unnecessary and unwanted distraction in my classroom unless they are being used for the day's lesson. If a student is going to bring an electronic device into my room it goes in the cellphone pocket that matches their desk number until it is needed.

This is the "Homework Station." There's 4 sections, from left to right:

Each hour has been designated a specific color sticky note. If a student does not turn in the assignment on the due date I put a sticky note with the student's name, and the assignment on the board on the due date. The sticky note stays there until the student turns in the assignment or until the end of the quarter, which ever comes first.
|
On this bulletin board I will display the total number of missing assignments for each hour. The students enjoy seeing which hours have the most and which hours have the least, it creates some friendly competition as well.
|
On one side of my white board I display the daily agenda for each of my classes. Students look for this and like to see what we are doing each day.
